"Remembering 9/11" Sermon Series • August 28 - September 11

The events of September 11, 2001 are permanently etched in our minds. This year marks the 15th anniversary of 9/11. As our nation prepares to mark this anniversary, we will be reflecting on the events of that day through the lens of the Christian faith by remembering the stories of both the hate and the heroism of 9/11. Join us for our sermon series August 28 - September 11th:

August 28: Bringing Beauty from the Ashes // Isaiah 61:1-4

In the scriptures tragedy and evil never have the final word. In this message we will look at how God works through human beings to bring beauty from out of the ashes and what it will take for good to have triumphed over evil in a post 9/11 world.

September 11: The Day that Changed the World // Deut. 30:19-20 and John 15:12-13

On September 11, 2001 we saw the worst and the best of humanity. In this message we will remember the stories of both the hate and the heroism of 9/11. This September 11 – in addition to reflecting on the events of this day – we will honor the brave men and women in our community who are First Responders. All First Responders in our community are invited to attend our 10:30 AM Worship service followed by a luncheon for all First Responders and their families in the Wesley Center. Please join us in worship Sunday, September 11th at 10:30 AM as we honor those who serve our community.

Those who are law enforcement, fire fighters and EMS personnel, you are the unsung heroes of our local community. You place your lives at risk on every call. You show us your strength in the face of tragedy and compassion in your commitment to serving others.

Please join us on Sunday, September 11th so we may honor you and your commitment to our community:

• 10:30 AM Worship service in the Sanctuary (all are welcome)

• 11:30 AM Luncheon for all First Responders and their families in the Wesley Center

• 6:30 PM Screening of “Rebirth” in the Worship Center (all are welcome; a light dinner will be served at 6:00 PM)

Project Rebirth's Peabody Award-winning film, “Rebirth”, is a riveting journey into living history and the result of a decade-long process by director Jim Whitaker. It chronicles the journeys of five people whose lives were forever altered on September 11, 2001. Through “Rebirth” we watch initial emotions of shock, anger, and confusion gradually evolve into hope, purpose, and renewal.

First Responders, please click here to RSVP and let us know whether you will be joining us.  Thank you!
