About This Page

Asbury Church's building is currently closed to take part in social distancing in doing our part to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Below you'll find all updates and communications sent during this time of closure.

Our staff has a heart to continue to provide resources for spiritual growth during this time, including resources designed for adults, parents, children, and youth; as well as prayers you can use. If there are additional worship, program, or facility updates to share, we'll share those as well. Content will vary from day-to-day, but our prayer is that this is a way for you to continue to feel connected to Asbury.

Full Statement on Closure (March 12, 2020)

This was originally posted on March 12, 2020

Asbury’s leadership has been actively monitoring the COVID-19 (coronavirus) global pandemic and examining best practices and next steps to consider to keep our congregation safe.

Out of an abundance of caution - and with a heart to protect the congregation - Church Council has decided to close Asbury’s building and is cancelling all on-site gatherings, including worship services, for the next 2 weeks, effective Saturday, March 14, and continuing through March 28, with a goal to minimize the spread of the virus. Further evaluation will take place based on how the situation develops during that time period.

Asbury’s Preschool has also made the decision to close for these 2 weeks.

But the absence of a physical gathering doesn’t mean we should cease worshipping our risen Savior. We will continue to hold a worship service that will be streamed online and we encourage you to attend digitally by watching via your computer, tablet, or phone. There will be one service streaming online only on Sunday at 10 AM (again, the building will be closed... this worship service is only accessible online). We will also share an archived copy of this service via email later that day.

Live streaming is as simple as visiting live.asburylv.org. While there, you’ll be able to register your attendance, submit a prayer request, and give a tithe online.

We believe that of any time to share the hope of Jesus, this is the time; and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share worship and resources online during the time that the building is closed. The Church (body of Christ) will still gather even when the church (building) is closed. We also encourage small groups to explore electronic means of meeting, such as teleconferencing or video calls.

These steps are not at all taken lightly, but they are being taken because we have a charge to keep those in our congregation safe and we want to do our part to keep those in our community safe as well.

Precautions related to the coronavirus will have an impact on our activities and gatherings. We recognize that they may also have a negative impact on our giving. Please continue to give and support our ministries as you are able. You can visit asburylv.org/give to give a one-time or recurring gift on PushPay, our online giving portal or you can mail a check to the church. Although our activities may be curtailed for a time, our fixed expenses for our ministries and building operations continue.  Also, we value our staff, who will continue to be here to support you; and they will continue to be compensated in full. Thank you for your continued support!

Any additional communication regarding Asbury’s response to this outbreak will be communicated through the same channels that you received this information from (email, social media, website).

We're aware that some of our members may not receive our emails; and some are not online at all. We ask you to please help us spread the word.

We ask you to pray for those who are ill and for the medical personnel and leaders who are addressing this pandemic; and we hope to be able to gather together again in-person as a body of Christ soon.

Daily Email Update Text - Sunday, March 15, 2020

Sunday, March 15, 2020 Email Update
Good afternoon!

As a reminder, Asbury's building is closed and all business closed through March 28. However, as we do our part to maintain "social distancing" to limit the spread of this dangerous virus, our staff is committed to continuing to resource the congregation with opportunities for spiritual growth.

During the time that Asbury is closed due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we'll be sending a daily email update with opportunities to stay spiritually connected - to remain a Church, a body connected in the name of Christ, despite not physically gathering together. Our plan is to include resources designed for adults, parents, children, and youth; as well as prayers you can use. If there are additional worship, program, or facility updates to share, we'll share those as well. Content will vary from day-to-day, but our prayer is that this is a way for you to continue to feel connected to Asbury.

You're receiving this email because you're on the list to receive our standard weekly email. If you do not want to receive this daily email, you can unsubscribe from this list while remaining on the list for the weekly Asbury Update email, which is also the list we use to send any news alerts. We don't want you to feel like we're cluttering your inbox; but we also don't want you to miss out on the ongoing weekly email when we return to that format.

Replay of Today's Worship Service

Thank you to all who joined us to worship online this morning! We had 240 unique connections; and we know that many of those connections had more than one person watching. What a blessing to be able to "gather" even when we couldn't be in the same room!

We're aware there were a number of streaming issues from this morning. As you can imagine, the number of churches around the world who were streaming services online - and the people who were watching those streams rather than gathering physically - was multitudes more than normal; and because of that, our streaming provider - even with the extra efforts they made - still had trouble handling the increase in traffic as churches streamed from around the globe. It's easy to want to grumble about that; but instead let's give thanks to God that we live in an era when we can be connected even while separated and that there were so many people worldwide who worshiped this morning!

We'll monitor the steps the streaming provider takes over the next week and consider what the best option is to deliver worship next Sunday.

All that being said, here's the replay from today's service. The entire service - music and all - will be available for a week. After that time, only the message will be available.

Special thanks to all who made this morning's stream possible!

Today's Prayer
Father, thank you for the opportunity for connection in the midst of physical isolation. We ask for healing for those who are fighting this virus; and for strength, courage, and wisdom for the medical professionals, first responders, community leaders, and world leaders who are working to keep us safe.
Amen.

Giving to Asbury
