Advent is the season when we pray for hope, peace, joy, and love to enter the world as we ready ourselves for Christmas. We invite you to celebrate the beginning of this special season by joining us on Saturday, December 1, 2018 for all of our Advent Celebration Events.

“Hanging of the Greens”: Beginning at 3 PM
We will begin the celebration at 3 PM with our traditional “Hanging of the Greens.” Join in the fun by helping to decorate 4 trees, hang wreaths in designated areas throughout the Church, and decorate Asbury for the holidays. Please sign up to help by emailing Diane Antol at  .

UMW Special Service Project: 4 PM, Aldersgate Room
Please join the UMW in a very special service project between 4 PM and 5 PM in the Aldersgate Room. Come see how many personal hygiene items we can fit into eyeglasses cases to benefit the homeless when in need (distributed by the Lions Club). Please contact Debi Olphin with any questions or to RSVP by emailing .

Youth Ministries’ Spaghetti Dinner: 5 PM, Wesley Center
Be sure to join us for dinner beginning at 5 PM until 6:30 PM in the Wesley Center. Together we will enjoy a free-will donation spaghetti dinner prepared by Asbury Youth Ministries. Donations will benefit the Youth Ministries’ annual High School West Virginia Work Week mission trip in July.

“A Sense-ible Christmas”: 6 PM, Worship Center
We will continue with the celebration in the Worship Center as Asbury’s Children’s Ministries presents a special family time from 6 PM to 6:45 PM. Please join us as we take a light-hearted look at some of our current Christmas traditions and how they can sometimes distract us from experiencing the true magic and meaning of Christmas. All are welcome!

“Home by Another Way” Worship Service: 7 PM, Sanctuary
We will conclude our celebration with a special Worship service at 7 PM in the Sanctuary entitled “Home by Another Way.” This Christmas story follows the three wise men on their world-changing journey to Bethlehem by author and preacher Barbara Brown Taylor. It captures the power of one very special star and offers us opportunity for a new perspective of our journey and encounters on our way to Christmas. We will begin our Advent journey together as we find "Home by another way."

The Christmas story is 2,000 years old and sometimes it feels as if we’ve heard it 2,000 times. As a result, we may no longer pay attention to the powerful nuances of the story. Join us for Worship this Advent season as we look at some specific characters in the Christmas story with “Fresh Eyes” and point out some plot twists that you might not be familiar with. In doing so, we will see some very helpful, practical, and inspiring new insights into this amazing story. Click here for more details and archived sermons.
