Adult Sunday School Minimize

EDUCAT2C.GIFAsbury UMC recognizes that people continue learning throughout their lives, and that many people's spiritual journeys actually begin when they are adults. To help people in their journeys, we offer a variety of adult education opportunities, centered around the Adult Sunday School, held Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15.

In most classes, members choose the curriculum, and take turns leading discussion. Discussion is encouraged and beliefs are openly shared and explored.  Classes feature fellowship time and a time for sharing concerns and joys. Many class members look to each other for support during times of difficulty. While worship is a time for praising God, many who attend adult Sunday School claim that it is this time that is most challenging to their spiritual growth and that brings them into relationship with God and others.

Check out what the class is studying in the Cross & Flame's calendar and the bulletin.  Visit classes until you find the one, two or three that feel right. Of course, you don't have to join a class; you can rotate between classes to learn about different topics and meet more people.

Whether you want to learn more about the Bible, live a better Christian life or make new friends, there is a place for you in one of Asbury's Adult Sunday school Classes. Try one or try them all!

Berea Class – Room 208

The Berea Class is Asbury’s ‘senior’ class.  The class uses the New International Lesson series for a lesson based on lecture and discussion.  Leaders: Grover Bays, Clara Koch.

Pioneer Class – Room 217

The Pioneer Class focuses on Bible study plus contemporary topics and religious issues of today.  Fellowship is an intentional element of this class.  The first part of each class focuses on relationship building and the class meets an additional time once a month for a social event.  This class is a good place to start if you are looking to build relationships within the church community.  Leader: Skip Slaski.

Chrysalis Class – Room 215

Chrysalis recognizes that Christianity is a journey.  The members are committed to spiritual growth.  Chrysalis seeks to balance its curriculum between theological discussions, biblical topics, family-related topics and issues of importance to our society. The class accepts and tolerates a wide range of Christian beliefs and enjoys lively discussions.  Leader: Scott Hanton.

Cheers – Aldersgate Room

“Cheers” is a place where "everyone knows your name".  This class is for younger adults (or those young at heart) who are prayerfully and enthusiastically seeking their place in God’s Kingdom.  A variety of subjects are decided upon by the group.  Leaders are Bob Barraco and Paul Wood.

Henritzy Class – Room 204

The Henritzy Class is an informal class with discussions on lessons varying from Bible history to contemporary issues.  Fellowship events are also planned.  Leader:  Marsha Johnston.

Adult Inquirer’s Class

On a regular basis, a class is held for adults wishing to join Asbury UMC, called the Adult Inquirer’s Class. In this class, members learn about the United Methodist Church, and Asbury UMC in particular, and they learn more about themselves and the spiritual gifts they possess. To find out more, contact Laurie Wallace Theisen in the church office.
