The mission team for the Cookson Hills, Oklahoma VBS is requesting prayers and donations of cardboard from cereal boxes and clean pizza boxes, bean bags, and art scraps by May 26. Small pieces of yarn, lace, odd buttons or jewelry, etc will be helpful in creating masks. Please place items in container under the AIM showcase. Asbury in Mission is partnering with New Beginnings, our sister church serving the Haitian community that meets at Asbury on Sunday afternoons. New Beginnings is making a mission trip to Haiti this summer and they have asked Asbury Church to help them gather basic toiletries and first aid items which they will be shipping to Haiti for distribution during their trip. Asbury in Mission will be selling Jewels of Hope jewelry at the Mission Brunch on April 29th and in the Community Room and Lower Welcome Center on May 5th. This beautiful jewelry is made by AIDS orphans in South Africa to help them provide basic needs for their families. AIM has approved funding for a scholarship for a young African woman from Zimbabwe to further her training for leadership in the Zimbabwean United Methodist Church. Her name is Daina Tambudzai Matikitl and she is a mother of 2 girls and is married to a teacher. She has completed initial theological training to be an ordained minister and has served in that role for several years. At this point she wants to complete her Bachelor of Divinity degree at Africa University so that she can provide the leadership ...

Our children’s ministry team is a shining example of reaching our neighbors throughout the world with the message of Christ’s love. As you may know, the C. Benedict Kennedy School in Lofa County Liberia was recently reopened when Asbury members and groups stepped up to sponsor teachers.

Back in April of 2001, Asbury in Mission (AIM) instituted the Change-for-Change initiative highlighting a different Asbury mission partner each month. The purpose of Change-for-Change is twofold: raising needed funds for our mission partners, but also raising awareness of the work they do. As we’ve worked together to plan this year’s Chili Cookoff, we’ve learned much about the ministries of the Lehigh County Conference of Churches. The Aspires Mentoring Program was actually established at Asbury Church years ago and continues to mentor at-risk youth in the Allentown School District under the Conference of Churches umbrella.
